Heritage Open Days 2019

Our Heritage Open Day was a great success. We opened the building and put out displays of our collection for Heritage Open Days 2019. Members of the local community dropped by to explore the history of Deptford Ragged School and its impact on the community of Deptford over the past 175 years. People had the opportunity to look at original documents, annual reports, minutes, crockery, certificates, letters, photos and architectural plans, and discover their stories.

We were particularly keen to hear from people who had memories of the Deptford Ragged School and the Princess Louise Institute (as it later came to be known), and we weren't disappointed. A couple of people, including the delighted George above, came to share their own experiences of the Princess Louise Institute. George was over the moon to find a picture of himself and his parents on a coach trip to the seaside in the 1950s.

We ran a family, all-age activity for sharing school memories and thank volunteers for providing tea and cake.
